Calls work the moment your number is live, but texting needs a one-time registration with the mobile carriers, which JobField files for you. Until the carriers approve it, texts wait. Texting then turns on by itself.

Steps

  1. On a computer, go to Settings → Phone & texting and open the Numbers tab.
  2. Press Set up texting. If the status reads Texting · Registering, your registration is already with the carriers. This usually takes a few hours to a couple of days, and there is nothing for you to do.
  3. If you see a form instead, texting was never registered for this number. Fill in Your business, Business address and Authorized representative, tick the numbers under Your numbers, confirm the authorization, and press Activate texting.
  4. If a card reads Texting did not go through. Let's fix it, the carriers turned the registration down. Check that your Legal business name and EIN match your IRS EIN letter exactly, check your Website, Facebook page, or Google Business page, then submit again.

Good to know

A mismatch is the usual reason for a rejection. The carriers compare your legal name and EIN against IRS records, so a trade name or a missing suffix such as LLC can be turned down. A brand-new EIN can take two to four weeks to become verifiable, so a very new business may have to wait and submit again.

The carriers also want a public web presence. A website, a Facebook page or a Google Business page all work.

Once it is approved, the status reads Texting · Active, and texts from jobs, automations and Messages start going out.
