When the carriers turn down your business details, the texting form under Settings → Phone & texting comes back with a red card that reads Texting did not go through. Let's fix it. Almost every rejection comes from a legal name or EIN that does not match IRS records. Correct the details and submit the form again.

Steps

  1. On a computer, open Settings → Phone & texting, go to the Numbers tab and press Set up texting.
  2. If the red card is at the top, compare Legal business name and EIN with your IRS EIN letter character for character. Use the legal name with its suffix, such as LLC.
  3. Check Business type. The form accepts an LLC, a corporation, a partnership or a non-profit.
  4. Open the address under Website, Facebook page, or Google Business page in a browser and make sure it loads and shows your business name.
  5. Check Business address against the EIN letter.
  6. Tick the authorization box and press Activate texting.

Good to know

An empty form with no red card means your first submission is still being reviewed. Pressing Activate texting then shows a message that the registration is still being reviewed, and you can submit again only once the carriers have answered.

A brand-new EIN. The form says a new EIN can take two to four weeks to become verifiable. If your business is younger than that, wait and submit again.

A status that stays stuck. If the page keeps showing Texting · Registering for days, or a status that does not change, the carriers may have turned down a later stage that the form cannot resubmit. Message us from Settings → Help & Support.

Your number keeps taking calls the whole time. Once the carriers approve the details, the status reads Texting · Active and texts start going out.
