When a carrier refuses a text, the message in Messages reads Not delivered in red. When the carrier gave a reason, it sits on the line underneath, and it tells you what to do next.
Steps
- Open Messages and the conversation. A refused text has a red bubble with Not delivered under it.
- This number cannot receive texts. It is a landline or a line that does not take texts. Call the customer instead, or ask for a mobile number and update the customer page.
- This number does not exist. or This is not a valid phone number. Check the number on the customer page for a typo.
- This person replied STOP. They get no texts until they reply START. Ask the customer to reply START to your number if they want texts again.
- The phone is off or out of service. Try again later.
- This business line is not registered for texting yet. Open Settings → Phone & texting to check your registration.
- The carrier filtered this text as unwanted. Shorten the message, remove anything that reads like an advert, and type it again.
- The person or their carrier blocked texts from this number. Call instead.
Good to know
Sending… means the text is still on its way. Delivered means it has gone out to the carrier.
There is no resend button. To try again, type the text again.
Some texts are refused before they are sent, for example to a customer who already replied STOP or while texting is not approved. Those never appear in the conversation. A message on screen tells you why instead.
A text can read Not delivered with no reason under it, or with The carrier did not say why. Try once more, and message us from Settings → Help & Support if it fails twice.
